Thank you for offering yourself for public service through elected office.  Since only an informed electorate can make sound decisions, we ask you to state your positions so that we can distribute them to your potential constituents.  Please indicate your position with an A (Agree) or D (Disagree) to the left of each question.

State Issues

_____1.  I oppose a state income tax.

_____2.  I would vote for a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit a state income tax and end the

              debate.

_____3.  I will work toward reducing the tax burden on Tennesseans.

_____4.  I would vote for legislation that would require a Photo ID to vote.

_____5.  I would vote for legislation requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote.. 

_____6.  I would vote against any resolution that called on Congress to convene an Article

              V Federal  Constitutional Convention for ANY reason.

_____7.  I would vote against any effort to legalize marijuana for ANY reason.

­­_____8.  I support the right of Tennesseans to make their own health care decisions.

_____9.  I would vote for legislation that protect the right of Tennesseans to purchase the health

              care coverage of  their choice.

_____10. I would support an effort to establish the position of the TN General Assembly that the

              State of Tennessee should not participate in any Federally-mandated carbon cap-an-trade

   system and shall officially oppose the establishment of such a system by the Federal

   government. 

_____11. I would vote for legislation that would prohibit the forced implantation of any

              RFID microchip as a  condition of employment or for any other reason.

_____12. I support the right of employees to privately decide whether or not to allow a particular

              union to represent their interests.

_____13. I would vote for legislation that would require the TN Refugee Coordinator program to

               consult with and  cooperate with local communities in resettling refugees in Tennessee.

_____14. I oppose any inclusion of Sharia (Islamic) law in our legal code.

                                        

 Education Issues

_____15. Tennessee should undertake an initiative to include intensive, systematic, direct phonics

              and other clinically proven methods of teaching reading in the classroom.

_____16. Tennessee has a Family Life Education law that requires that "primary emphasis be place

              on abstinence"  among other requirements.  Schools should comply with all provisions of

              this law.

_____17. I would vote against imposing ‘comprehensive’ sex education on local school systems.    

_____18. Parents must have the right to exempt their children from questionable methodology,

              curricula, classes or surveys that they consider privacy invading or  offensive to their

              religion or values.

_____19. Parents have a fundamental right to direct the education of their children; inspect and

               review instructional materials and methods; this includes access to all records of their

               children.

_____20. School-based health clinics should not be permitted to perform physical or mental 

               examinations, provide immunizations and medications, without direct, explicit permission

               from parents.

_____21. School-based health clinics should not be permitted to dispense birth control pills or birth

               control devices or make abortion referrals.

_____22. Parents have the right to home school their children with minimal government  

               interference.

_____23. Understanding that ‘testing drives curriculum’ I would vote against legislation requiring

               that home schooled and/or private school students take the same tests required of public

               school students.               

_____24. I would vote against any legislation making Pre-K mandatory.

_____25. I would vote for legislation requiring that applicants seeking in-state tuition to be residing

               in Tennessee lawfully.

_____26. I would vote to expand Charter School opportunities.

 

Gambling Issues

_____27.  I would vote against any legislation or constitutional amendment to permit Casinos in

               Tennessee.

_____28.  I would vote against any legislation that would legalize Video Lottery Terminals.

_____29.  I would vote against any legislation that would legalize Keno games/machines.

_____30.  I would vote against any legislation that would legalize the “collector card” machines,

               “baseball card” machines, “redemption” machines, or any other such gambling device.

_____31.  I would vote against reinstituting the State Racing Commission thereby authorizing horse

               racing and pari-mutuel wagering.

 

Family Issues

_____ 32. If the US Congress sends to the several states a proposed amendment to the US 

                Constitution defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman, I will vote

                to ratify.

_____ 33. I would vote for legislation that would prohibit any effort to require minor children to

                take the HPV vaccine.

 

Sanctity of Life

_____ 34. An unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life; therefore, abortion should be

               prohibited except to save the life of the mother.

_____ 35. I will vote for the Constitutional Amendment (SJR 127) that would render the

               state constitution silent on abortion and leave any “exceptions” to abortion for

               the General Assembly to debate and decide statutorily.

_____ 36. No state tax dollars should be used to pay for abortions except to save the life of the

               mother.

_____ 37. We should not be creating little human beings (embryos) to destroy for research, nor

                should frozen embryos from left over from IVF be destroyed for research.

_____ 38. Every effort should be made to provide adoption opportunities for frozen embryos.

_____ 39. Cloning human beings, which is growing a human being from a single cell of

                a genetically identical human being through asexual reproduction should be made illegal.

_____ 40. An unborn child has the right to be legally protected from criminal assault by a

               third party  regardless of gestational age.
