SPECIAL ALERT: SJR 127 tonight May 18, 2009

It was noteworthy yesterday morning that the scripture in one of my devotion books was
Deuteronomy 30:16-22 which, of course, contains the verse:

"This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now CHOOSE LIFE so that you and your children may live."

I do not believe this was an 'accident', I believe this was a Divine reminder of what is at stake tonight on the House floor.

Your involvement is critical.  The House members are being inundated with emails containing emotional stories opposing SJR 127 in its present form.  They are being pushed hard to amend this proposal to include abortion exceptions of some sort.  That, of course, completely undermines the purpose of SJR 127.  The entire object of SJR 127 is to NEUTRALIZE the State Constitution on this issue.  That is all it does -- that is all we want it to do.

Should SJR 127 get through the entire process and be added to the State Constitution, it WILL NOT prevent one abortion nor restrict abortion in any way, it will simply return the Constitution to the position it was in for over 130 years on this issue---neutral.

1.  Pray for Rep. Debra Maggart (R-Hendersonville) as she presents SJR 127 and leads the opposition to the amendments that will be proposed.
2.  Pray for Truth to Triumph.
3.  Call your state representative (Legislative Switchboard: 615-741-3011) or go
HERE and send him or her an email to support the resolution AS IS, no amendments.

HERE for background information.

Rep. Debra MaggartConstitutional Amendments - Adds new provision to Article I to provide that nothing in Constitution of Tennessee secures or protects right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion; states that the people retain the right through their elected state representatives and state senators to enact, amend, or repeal statutes regarding abortion, including, but not limited to, circumstances of pregnancy resulting from rape or incest or when necessary to save the life of the mother.

Tonight Tennessee will make history and you may want to join us in the House gallery at 4:00 p.m. If you can't join us, you can watch the proceedings HERE
