Illegal Immigration and Open Borders

Lack of Government Action: Ignorance or Intentional

Written by:  Amanda Taylor, Teen Eagle

Because our government has placed border security on the very bottom of the priority list, they have allowed terrorists, criminals, drug dealers, people smugglers and illegal aliens to invade our property. They have violated Article IV Section 4 of the United States Constitution that says, " The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion." The border invasion of the south is not only open to Mexicans, but also to people from Russia, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, Iran, and Iraq.

People who live on the border will see 60 or more illegals just walking through their backyards. During the night, the trespassers cut fences that hold cattle and horses; they break into houses, steal cars and leave trash all over the ground.

"The next time you pass through an airport and have to produce a photo ID to establish who you are and then must remove your shoes, take off your belt, empty your pockets, prove your laptop is not an explosive device and send your briefcase through a machine to determine whether it holds weapons, think about this: In a single day more than 4,000 illegal aliens will walk across the busiest unlawful gateway into the U.S., the 375 mile border between Arizona and Mexico. No searches for weapons. No photo ID checks. Before long, many will obtain phony identification papers, including bogus Social Security numbers, to conceal their true identities and mask their unlawful presence." Time Magazine - "America's Borders: Who Left the Door Open." Sept. 20. 2004

Americans would go to jail for using fraudulent Social Security numbers and yet the government lets illegal aliens go free by making them pay a fine and telling them that they are off the hook if they promise to go back to Mexico, which they do not do. They get discounts on college tuitions and subsidized housing. The government justifies this unlawful act by calling it amnesty.

Some people think that hiring illegal workers is okay only because they are "doing the jobs that Americans won't take," but in fact some businesses refuse to offer wages that would let them attract American workers. Corporations lower the salary and hire illegals to work for them while making millions because they don't have to pay them as much. Managers will go so low as to "place orders" with smugglers for a desired amount of people to be "delivered" to work for them and the companies are hardly ever punished for this. It's not that the Americans think that they are too good for these jobs but rather they can't afford to take them.

The government is dodging this issue and they don't want to fix it. They make excuses that they don't have enough money or that it's not a big problem. Politicians rely on the big businesses for their donations and to oppose them would mean less support. The people who have said that they would protect our nation need to stop compromising and take a stand for the safety of our country. If the law won't protect us, what will we do?
