1. Faith Groups Increasingly Lose Gay Rights Fights

Washington Post Staff Writer
Friday, April 10, 2009; Page A04
Faith organizations and individuals who view homosexuality as sinful and refuse to provide services to gay people are losing a growing number of legal battles that they say are costing them their religious freedom.
The lawsuits have resulted from states and communities that have banned discrimination based on sexual orientation. Those laws have created a clash between the right to be free from discrimination and the right to freedom of religion, religious groups said, with faith losing. They point to what they say are ominous recent examples:
-- A Christian photographer was forced by the New Mexico Civil Rights Commission to pay $6,637 in attorney's costs after she refused to photograph a gay couple's commitment ceremony.
-- A psychologist in Georgia was fired after she declined for religious reasons to counsel a lesbian about her relationship.
-- Christian fertility doctors in California who refused to artificially inseminate a lesbian patient were barred by the state Supreme Court from invoking their religious beliefs in refusing treatment.
-- A Christian student group was not recognized at a University of California law school because it denies membership to anyone practicing sex outside of traditional marriage.
"It really is all about religious liberty for us," said Scott Hoffman, chief administrative officer of a New Jersey Methodist group, the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, which lost a property tax exemption after it declined to allow its beachside pavilion to be used for a same-sex union ceremony. "The protection to not be forced to do something that is against deeply held religious principles."
But gay groups and liberal legal scholars say they are prevailing because an individual's religious views about homosexuality cannot be used to violate gays' right to equal treatment under the law.

COMMENT: So let me get this straight -- the "Day of Silence" is to bring attention to 'bullying, harassment, threats, etc., that homosexuals supposedly endure.  So if you oppose the "Day of Silence", you are bullied, harassed and threatened. Makes perfect sense!!

'Actions of Day of Silence supporters are speaking louder than the silence'

At least one pro-family organization that has opposed the pro-homosexual "Day of Silence" is being targeted with hate e-mails and telephone calls, including suggestions that officials go and kill themselves.
"You may not be gay, but you may be next," said one e-mail, which included a photograph of a casket, according to Karen England, executive director of the Sacramento-based Capitol Resource Institute.
England said the hate has flooded in since her organization joined the "Day of Silence Walkout." She also confirmed to WND that she has filed a police report on the threats.
WND reported earlier this week on a multitude of organizations across the nation that oppose the DOS promotion in public schools sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network.
Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute noted the goal cited by GLSEN is to reduce bullying on school campuses, especially bullying perceived as targeting homosexual students or those with other "alternative' sexual lifestyles.
"No one supports bullying," she told WND. "Every school has more than ample anti-bullying policies in place. … For GLSEN, the means by which they want to end bullying is to normalize volitional homosexual conduct."
England told WND that another message was, "I wish you would just go kill yourself."

"If this is the kind of atmosphere we get just for asking kids to stay home, in an e-mail, can you imagine what is like for kids refusing to stay silent?" she said.
She also said teachers should focus on academic subjects, not changing minds about sexual issues.
"The actions of Day of Silence supporters are speaking louder than the silence," England said.
She said she is urging the walkout "because students should be free to support traditional marriage and relationships, without their peers seeing them as bigots."
The official day for the event is today, but opponents note some schools observe it on other days.
England said the Day of Silence "falsely equates being anti-harassment with being in favor of social activism in the schools. CRI strongly opposes all harassment. Teachers and students, however, should always be able to speak at school. The classroom is not an appropriate setting for social activism and protest."

Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority

COMMENT: Like the waves on the shore, the liberal agenda just keeps coming.

Homeland Security Secretary Can’t Say If Illegal Aliens Will Get Stimulus Money

Obama to Push Immigration Bill as One Priority
While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Obama plans to begin addressing the country’s immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said on Wednesday.
Mr. Obama will frame the new effort — likely to rouse passions on all sides of the highly divisive issue — as “policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system,” said the official, Cecilia Muñoz, deputy assistant to the president and director of intergovernmental affairs in the White House.
Mr. Obama plans to speak publicly about the issue in May, administration officials said, and over the summer he will convene working groups, including lawmakers from both parties and a range of immigration groups, to begin discussing possible legislation for as early as this fall.
Some White House officials said that immigration would not take precedence over the health care and energy proposals that Mr. Obama has identified as priorities. But the timetable is consistent with pledges Mr. Obama made to Hispanic groups in last year’s campaign.
He said then that comprehensive immigration legislation, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year in office. Latino voters turned out strongly for Mr. Obama in the election.
“He intends to start the debate this year,” Ms. Muñoz said.
But with the economy seriously ailing, advocates on different sides of the debate said that immigration could become a polarizing issue for Mr. Obama in a year when he has many other major battles to fight.
Opponents, mainly Republicans, say they will seek to mobilize popular outrage against any effort to legalize unauthorized immigrant workers while so many Americans are out of jobs.
Democratic legislative aides said that opening a full-fledged debate this year on immigration, particularly with health care as a looming priority, could weigh down the president’s domestic agenda.
Debate is still under way among administration officials about the precise timing and strategy. For example, it is unclear who will take up the Obama initiative in Congress.
No serious legislative talks on the issue are expected until after some of Mr. Obama’s other priorities have been debated, Congressional aides said.
Just last month, Mr. Obama openly recognized that immigration is a potential minefield.
"I know this is an emotional issue; I know it’s a controversial issue,” he told an audience at a town meeting on March 18 in Costa Mesa, Calif. “I know that the people get real riled up politically about this."
But, he said, immigrants who are long-time residents but lack legal status “have to have some mechanism over time to get out of the shadows.”
The White House is calculating that public support for fixing the immigration system, which is widely acknowledged to be broken, will outweigh opposition from voters who argue that immigrants take jobs from Americans. A groundswell among voters opposed to legal status for illegal immigrants led to the defeat in 2007 of a bipartisan immigration bill that was strongly supported by President George W. Bush.
Administration officials said that Mr. Obama’s plan would not add new workers to the American work force, but that it would recognize millions of illegal immigrants who have already been working here. Despite the deep recession, there is no evidence of any wholesale exodus of illegal immigrant workers, independent studies of census data show.
Opponents of legalization legislation were incredulous at the idea that Mr. Obama would take on immigration when economic pain for Americans is so widespread.
“It just doesn’t seem rational that any political leader would say, let’s give millions of foreign workers permanent access to U.S. jobs when we have millions of Americans looking for jobs,” said Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA, a group that favors reduced immigration. Mr. Beck predicted that Mr. Obama would face “an explosion” if he proceeded this year.
“It’s going to be, ‘You’re letting them keep that job, when I could have that job,’ ” he said.
In broad outlines, officials said, the Obama administration favors legislation that would bring illegal immigrants into the legal system by recognizing that they violated the law, and imposing fines and other penalties to fit the offense. The legislation would seek to prevent future illegal immigration by strengthening border enforcement and cracking down on employers who hire illegal immigrants, while creating a national system for verifying the legal immigration status of new workers.
But administration officials emphasized that many details remained to be debated.
Opponents of a legalization effort said that if the Obama administration maintained the enforcement pressure initiated by Mr. Bush, the recession would force many illegal immigrants to return home. Dan Stein, the president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said it would be “politically disastrous” for Mr. Obama to begin an immigration initiative at this time.

Napolitano stands (sort of); lawfirm sues

COMMENT:  After the TEA Parties on Wednesday, I suspect the Department of Homeland Security has a lot more of us on their list. So be it.  Our Forefathers had to take a stand for their nation; we can do -- dare not -- do less today.  Now Napolitano is saying she would rewrite (see last article) the footnote, but that is unacceptable.  Without the outrage and outcry she wouldn't even been saying that. In general she is standing by the report which clearly reveals what is in the hearts of these people about God-fearing, unborn baby loving, man and woman marrying, 2nd Amendment supporting , hard working, Constitution supporting people. This describes people who are the heart of America.  This situation is just more evidence that all those thousands of people who turned out on Wednesday must stay involved.

2.  Thomas Moore Law Center Demands Dept. of Homeland Security Reveal Basis for its Report Targeting Right Wing Extremists
3.  'Right Wing Extremists' Report Issued Despite Objections

1. Napolitano stands by controversial report

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Wednesday that she was briefed before the release of a controversial intelligence assessment and that she stands by the report, which lists returning veterans among terrorist risks to the U.S.

But the top House Democrat with oversight of the Department of Homeland Security said in a letter to Ms. Napolitano that he was "dumbfounded" that such a report would be issued.

"This report appears to raise significant issues involving the privacy and civil liberties of many Americans - including war veterans," said Rep. Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, in his letter sent Tuesday night.

The letter was representative of a public furor over the nine-page document since its existence was reported in The Washington Times on Tuesday.

In her statement Wednesday, Ms. Napolitano defended the report, which says "rightwing extremism" may include groups opposed to abortion and immigration, as merely one among several threat assessments. But she agreed to meet with the head of the American Legion, who had expressed anger over the report, when she returns to Washington next week from a tour of the U.S.-Mexico border.

"The document on right-wing extremism sent last week by this department's Office of Intelligence and Analysis is one in an ongoing series of assessments to provide situational awareness to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies on the phenomenon and trends of violent radicalization in the United States," Ms. Napolitano said in her statement.

"I was briefed on the general topic, which is one that struck a nerve as someone personally involved in the Timothy McVeigh prosecution," Ms. Napolitano said.

Click here to download a PDF of the report.

Ms. Napolitano insisted that the department was not planning on engaging in any form of ideological profiling.

"Let me be very clear: We monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don't have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence," Ms. Napolitano said.

"We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not - nor will we ever - monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources."

The Times reported Tuesday that the department's Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A) issued April 7 the nine-page document titled "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment." Outcry from veterans groups, Republican lawmakers and conservative activists followed, but the reaction spread Wednesday to Democratic lawmakers and liberal-leaning groups.

In his letter to Ms. Napolitano, Mr. Thompson demanded that Homeland Security officials explain how and why they wrote the report and whether it poses any threat to civil liberties.

"As I am certain you agree, freedom of association and freedom of speech are guaranteed to all Americans - whether a person's beliefs, whatever their political orientation, are 'extremist' or not," Mr. Thompson said.

2. Federal Lawsuit Filed Against Janet Napolitano Over Homeland Security’s Rightwing Extremism Policy

NN ARBOR, MI – The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has filed a federal lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.  The lawsuit claims that her Department’s “Rightwing Extremism Policy,” as reflected in the recently publicized Intelligence Assessment, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” violates the civil liberties of combat veterans as well as American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of the political beliefs.  General - PDF Links Click here to read the Law Center’s complaint.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray.  The Law Center claims that Napolitano’s Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights.  The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.

Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Thomas More Law Center stated, “The Obama Administration has declared war on American patriots and our Constitution.  The Report even admits that the Department has no specific information on any plans of violence by so-called ‘rightwing extremists.’  Rather, what they do have is the expression of political opinions by certain individuals and organizations that oppose the Obama administration’s policies, and this expression is protected speech under the First Amendment.”

3. 'Right-Wing Extremism' Report Issued Despite Objections

Civil liberties officials at Homeland Security did not agree with some of the language in a controversial report on right-wing extremists, but the agency issued the report anyway.

WASHINGTON -- Civil liberties officials at the Homeland Security Department did not agree with some of the language in a controversial report on right-wing extremists, but the agency issued the report anyway.

The intelligence assessment issued to law enforcement last week said some military veterans could be susceptible to extremist recruiters or commit lone acts of violence. That prompted angry reactions from some lawmakers and veterans' groups.

Homeland Security spokeswoman Amy Kudwa said the report was issued before officials resolved problems raised by the agency's civil rights division. Kudwa would not specify what language raised the concerns.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano defended the report Thursday, but she said the definition of right-wing extremism that was included in a footnote should be changed.

In the report, right-wing extremism was defined as hate-motivated groups and movements, such as hatred of certain religions, racial or ethnic groups. "It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration," the report said.

"If there's one part of that report I would rewrite, in the word-smithing, Washington-ese that goes on after the fact, it would be that footnote," Napolitano said Thursday on FOX News.

Dr. Oz to Oprah and Michael J Fox: "The stem cell debate is dead."

COMMENT:  In the face of all the bad news we have been facing on a daily, dare I say, hourly, basis, this just makes the heart sing.  Those of us who have been involved for a long time in the battle to protect little human embryos from becoming a commodity know the truth -- all the real advances have been made by using 'adult' stem cells.  However, to have a respected doctor sitting face to face with Michael J Fox, a supporter of embryonic stem cell research, on the Oprah show with the huge audience that show has, saying that "the stem cell debate is dead" can only be a 'God thing'.  Since we are preparing to celebrate the Resurrection, it is the season of Miracles!!

For Patients Seeking Cures, Adult Stem Cell Research Industry is Blossoming

by Sally Robbins
April 6, 2009 Note: Sally Robbins is an author and freelance writer whose writing credits include Forbes, Business Week, Tribune Media Services, Market Watch, Advertising Age, and New York Daily News. She recently completed an historical novel, Rivaling Paris, and is at work on a biography about Henri Bendel.

The adult stem cell marketplace is one of the most dynamic areas in life science today. There are an incredible number of scientific advancements, especially since 2008 as a heated pace of research discoveries and collaborations are underway among commercial companies, institutions and even a multi-institutional, interdisciplinary network initiative led by an executive department of the U.S. federal government.

Also, big pharma are beginning to invest heavily into regenerative medicine, and at least one state in the U.S. is proposing a bill that would create a special research consortium to maximize the benefits of adult stem cell research for its citizens.

Non-controversial adult stem cells hold great hope for successful treatments and potential cures. In recent years these cells have provided therapeutic benefits to human patients for 70+ diseases and conditions. Adult stem cells exist within the body and have untapped potential to rescue and heal tissue and organs that have been injured or diseased. They can be extracted from many types of tissues such as umbilical cord at birth, peripheral, bone marrow, adipose (fat) tissue, menstrual-derived blood, dental pulp, liver, skeletal muscle, placentas, and more.

A service of the National Institutes of Health called (, a registry of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the U.S. and around the world,  showed at the end of March 2009 there were more than 2,300 adult stem cell clinicaltrials in various stages (completed, active, recruiting volunteers, and not yet recruiting) investigating these cells use as potential breakthrough therapies for a myriad of diseases. “We estimate there are up to 300 firms worldwide engaged in some aspect of stem cell research and commercialization and the vast majority of stem cell companies are focused on adult stem cells: allogenic (taken from a different individual); autulogous (taken from an individual and transferred back to original donor); or cultured. And it is becoming increasingly clear that these stem cells can address up to 70 different clinical indications. Much of what is motivating these early pioneer patients is an existing deep-seated demand for these therapies,” according to Robin Young, CFA, CEO of RRY Publications LLC, a market analysis firm in Wayne, Pa. His analysis and market forecasts (2009 - 2019) were presented at the 4th Annual Stem Cell Summit on February 17, 2009 in New York. (“Stem Cell Summit Executive Summary”;; click-on Bookstore)
“All three types of stem cells are now firmly in the marketplace. Over the course of the last four years, approximately 30,000 patients have been treated with allogenic stem cell products in the U.S.; 2,000 – 3,000 with autologous stem cell products; and more than 1,000 with cultured stem cell products,” stated the market report.

Stem cells as commercial products have demonstrable therapeutic value in 15 medical markets, according to Young’s analysis, such as heart muscle repair, nerve regeneration and diabetes treatment. “In 2008 in the U.S., there were 35 million patients available for eventual stem cell therapeutic treatment in the 15 markets analyzed. By 2018, we forecast stem cells will be used therapeutically in as many as 2 million annual procedures for an aggregate market penetration of approximately 6%. These products will be generating, we estimate, well over $8 billion in revenue.”

Cord Blood Fastest Growing Therapy Group

Dallas Hextell is living proof of the healing power of adult stem cells there. He was diagnosed at eight months with cerebral palsy, which has no known cure. Fortunately, Dallas’ parents had his umbilical cord blood stored when he was born. He was accepted in a clinical trial at Duke University in July 2007 and was among the first in the country to be intravenously infused with his own cord blood stem cells to induce healing in his brain. Soon after his procedure Dallas’ parents began noticing improvements. Today,
with the help of therapists, Dallas is doing things no one thought possible.  He runs, he laughs, and he’s beginning to talk.

“When babies are born, the umbilical cord is generally discarded. This is partly because pregnant women and many of their doctors are unaware that life science has demonstrated cord blood cells have immense therapeutic value. Increasingly families are educating themselves about cryogenic storage of their child’s cord blood because they understand recent progress has revealed it is a safe and ethical source of stem cells for therapeutic use and the technology is evolving rapidly. These cells can be cryogenically stored for more than 30 years. It’s a one-time opportunity,” said David Koos, Chairman and CEO of San Diego-based Bio-Matrix Scientific Group, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BMSN;

BMSN, an emerging research and development biotechnology company, opened its commercial cryogenic stem cell banking and processing facility in 2008. As of January 2009 BMSN has entered into contractual agreements with private stem cell preservation companies and other entities for the cryogenic banking and processing of stem cells from cord blood and peripheral blood of those companies’ donors’ specimens. BMSN does not have any contact with donor clients.

The Association of Family Cord Blood Banks estimated that about 750,000 cord blood collections are stored in private/family banks in the U.S., as of June 2008. The average cost of private cord blood banking in the U.S. for an individual is approximately $2,000 for the collection and about $125 per
year for storage, according to industry figures. There are often other fees

Obama budget could bring $9.3 trillion in deficits
President Barack Obama's budget would produce $9.3 trillion in deficits over the next decade, more than four times the deficits of Republican George W. Bush's presidency, congressional auditors said Friday.

The new Congressional Budget Office figures offered a far more dire outlook for Obama's budget than the new administration predicted just last month — a deficit $2.3 trillion worse. It's a prospect even the president's own budget director called unsustainable.

In his White House run, Obama assailed the economic policies of his predecessor, but the eye-popping deficit numbers threaten to swamp his ambitious agenda of overhauling health care, exploring new energy sources and enacting scores of domestic programs.

On April 15, be part of the Taxed Enough Already (TEA) party rally in your community

On the day you pay your taxes, Wednesday, April 15, join others across the country and in your hometown who will be participating in TEA party rallies in front of their city halls.  The TEA party rally will begin at 12 noon.
[NOTE: Some communities are holding their parties at other times.]

Earmarks: Online hide and go seek
Scores of House members are hiding their earmark requests in obscure corners of their official websites — sticking to the letter of their new rule while shunning its spirit.
The lawmakers are interpreting an ambiguous rule liberally, disclosing their requests as required on their official congressional webpages but avoiding any prominent display.
Under the new rule, touted by House Democrats and echoed by President Obama as a move toward a more open system of earmarking, members submitting spending requests for 2010 to the Appropriations Committee are required to create an active link on their webpages giving the details.
But the requirement to create a link allows for great disparity, from Speaker
Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) down the line to the most junior member of the minority, in how and where those requests are displayed.
The result was a hodgepodge, with some members of each party proudly displaying their requests while many others apparently did their utmost to keep their requests out of public view.
Fullest disclosures included those made by Ways and Means Committee Chairman
Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.), Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.), Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) — who is a notorious earmarker — and even Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.), who as the last freshman Republican to be sworn in this year is arguably the lowest-ranking member of the House.

  • vote for a $500 billion tax bill without even reading it?
  • are spending trillions of borrowed dollars, leaving a debt our great-grandchildren will be paying?
  • consistently give special interest groups billions of dollars in earmarks to help get themselves re-elected?
  • want to take your wealth and redistribute it to others?
  • punish those who practice responsible financial behavior and reward those who do not?
  • admit to using the financial hurt of millions as an opportunity to push their political agenda?
  • run up trillions of dollars of debt and then sell that debt to countries such as China?
  • want government controlled health care?
  • want to take away the right to vote with a secret ballot in union elections?
  • refuse to stop the flow of millions of illegal immigrants into our country?
  • appoint a defender of child pornography to the Number 2 position in the Justice Department?

International Conference of Global Warming Skeptic Scientists

[Eyewitness report from Texas Eagle Forum leader.]

March 10, 2009

By Pat Carlson

We have been told repeatedly by Al Gore and the mainstream media, the vast majority of scientists agree the 'debate is over' and 'the science is settled' proving humans are causing global warming, but 680 of the world's leading scientists, economists, and policy analysts met March 8-10, 2009 in New York City for the second Heartland International Conference to discuss "Global Warming: Was It Ever Really A Crisis?" These authorities say the majority of scientists worldwide do not agree with human induced or in scientific lingo, anthropogenic global warming or even that the earth is still warming, so it follows there is disagreement with the science.

It has become obvious to the ever growing numbers of scientists coming forward to question the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, it is no longer about the science but it is all about the politics and the money. Many of these men and women by questioning the science of the IPCC report have put their careers or their funding for research or their standing in the scientific community in jeopardy.

The most interesting of the speakers was the President of the Czech Republic and rotating President of the European Union, Vaclav Klaus. He has written a book titled Blue Planet in Green Shackles - What is Endangered: Climate or Freedom? What is happening with global warming reminds him of the communist era and how frustrated people felt. "Whatever you said, any convincing and well prepared arguments you used, any relevant data you assembled, no reaction. It all fell into emptiness....they [the communist] did not listen....They did not argue back...They uninformed....a complainer, someone not able to accept their only truth."

President Klaus has taken a bold position against global warming in international circles. He recently attended the World Economic Forum in Davos spending six hours in closed session with heads of state and officials from the IPCC. He was the only opponent of climate change in the room. These officials were trying to decided what would be a good target for global emissions cuts - 20, 30, 50 or 80%. President Klaus said, "It was difficult to say anything meaningful and constructive" but he finally turned their attention to the fact they were making "such radical proposals even though their own countries had not fulfilled even the relatively modest Kyoto Protocol obligations." There was no reaction. The former eastern block communist countries are the only force standing against the EU on this issue. They are still trying to rebuild their economies after 40 years of communist rule.

Other speakers were Senator and former astronaut Harrison Schmitt and John Coleman, the founder of the Weather Channel, who calls this "the greatest scam in history." We heard from retired Senior NASA Atmospheric Scientist John Theon. Dr. Theon was formerly the supervisor of Dr. James Hansen a radical global warming activist. Hansen recently stated that climate change skeptics are guilty of "high crimes against humanity and nature." Dr. Theon said Hansen is an embarrassment to NASA and he should be fired.

There were many more speakers almost all with PhD.'s in their specific field. The science was discussed sometimes in such detail that only other scientific minds could comprehend the significance. This is important because in comparison, at United Nation's Conferences science is never discussed or debated - it has been accepted without question.

I introduced myself to the man sitting next to me at a meal during the conference. His name was Dr. Mitchell Taylor and he was a Polar Bear Biologist with a PhD. He lives in one of the northern regions of Canada. I realized as I was speaking to him his name was very familiar. I had used quotes from him when writing about the polar bear being declared an Endangered Species. I asked him how the polar bears were doing and if they were indeed endangered (although I knew the answer). He said the polar bear is definitely not in danger of extinction. The numbers hold steady at about 24,000. He said where he lives it's not unusual to see one crossing the road at night. I can't wait to meet someone from the Sierra Club. I will ask that person who uses pictures of mother and baby polar bears stranded on the last piece of a melted iceberg to raise money, have you ever talked to a polar bear biologist? My answer will be, I have.

This conference was so different from the UN conferences I have attended. There was discussion and debate trying to seek the truth with concern for the future of humanity, not facilitated consensus building with a predetermined outcome based on 'their only truth' with concern for the future of the planet at the expense of humanity.

Lord Christopher Monckton who was a former policy advisor to Margaret Thatcher said, "This conference is not about climate change. It is about freedom."

Somebody Please Say, 'April Fools!'

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Wednesday, April 01, 2009 4:20 PM PT

April 1: We have to admit, we were surprised when the headline "Obama Orders Chevrolet and Dodge Out of Nascar" turned out to be an April Fools' joke. How can it be a joke when today's reality is far more extreme?

Car and Driver has nothing on the federal government. If you think we're exaggerating, just look at some of the recent days' events, each at least as outrageous as the April Fools' joke of Obama ordering Chevy and Dodge to leave Nascar, and maybe more so. They include:

• The government's stimulus efforts, as toted up by, so far total $13.8 trillion — roughly equal to our entire GDP for one year, or $45,245 for every man, woman and child.

• A U.S. president with virtually no private-sector experience fires GM CEO Rick Wagoner, a 30-year industry veteran, and forces Chrysler into a shotgun wedding with foreign carmaker Fiat.

• Democratic Rep. Barney Frank, who also has never toiled in the private sector, declares "We own AIG," and advocates sweeping government control over corporate pay and bonuses.

• The Service Employees International Union asks the White House to fire the CEO of Bank of America — and, because organized labor spent more than $100 million to get Barack Obama elected in 2008, it just might get its wish.

• The "New GM," or "Government Motors" as some call it, is told it might have to scrap half its profitable models to build what President Obama calls the "next generation of clean cars" — cars that don't yet exist, and have no proven market demand.

• Further afield, a key adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hangs up a "no vacancy" sign on the Earth, arguing that the world at 6 billion people is "overpopulated" — echoing the nutty Malthusian comments from a top British official last month that the United Kingdom's population needs to shrink by 30 million.

• Congress declares carbon dioxide, a naturally occurring gas necessary for all life, to be a poison and seeks to regulate it through a "cap-and-trade" system — a costly tax on everyone who uses energy, at a time when the global economy is in recession.

Yes, sadly, we could go on. And on.

Global Currency??

COMMENT:  "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks."
Now Timothy Geithner is trying to back peddle from his comments about a 'global currency'.  However, as someone who has been in the political arena for a very long time, policy changes frequently begin with 'running an idea up the flag pole' and watching the reaction. Normally, the more people hear something to more desensitized to it they become.

Mr. Brown gave Obama an ornamental pen holder constructed from the timbers of the anti-slavery ship HMS Gannet, once also named HMS President. He also gave a framed commission for the HMS Resolute. The desk in the Oval Office is itself made from the timbers of the HMS Resolute. The Resolute has symbolic history between the two countries.Lastly, Mr. Brown gave Obama a first edition set of the seven-volume classic biography of Winston Churchill, written by Sir Martin Gilbert. The thoughtfulness and symbolism of these tokens of friendship given by our most treasured ally cannot be understated.President Obama gave PM Brown a set of DVD's that cannot be played in England.
London aghast at President Obama over gifts given to Prime Minister Brown.

1. China calls for a new global currency

BEIJING – China is calling for a new global currency to replace the dominant dollar, showing a growing assertiveness on revamping the world economy ahead of next week's London summit on the financial crisis.

The surprise proposal by Beijing's central bank governor reflects unease about its vast holdings of U.S. government bonds and adds to Chinese pressure to overhaul a global financial system dominated by the dollar and Western governments. Both the United States and the European Union brushed off the idea.

The world economic crisis shows the "inherent vulnerabilities and systemic risks in the existing international monetary system," Gov. Zhou Xiaochuan said in an essay released Monday by the bank. He recommended creating a currency made up a basket of global currencies and controlled by the International Monetary Fund and said it would help "to achieve the objective of safeguarding global economic and financial stability."

Zhou did not mention the dollar by name. But in an unusual step, the essay was published in both Chinese and English, making clear it was meant for a foreign audience.

China has long been uneasy about relying on the dollar for the bulk of its trade and to store foreign reserves. Premier Wen Jiabao publicly appealed to Washington this month to avoid any response to the crisis that might weaken the dollar and the value of Beijing's estimated $1 trillion in Treasuries and other U.S. government debt.

For decades, the dollar has been the world's most widely used currency. Many governments hold a large portion of their reserves in dollars. Crude oil and many commodities are priced in dollars. Business deals around the world are done in dollars.

But the financial crisis has highlighted how America's economic problems — and by extension the dollar — can wreak havoc on nations around the world. China is in a bind. To keep the value of its currency steady — some say undervalued — the Chinese government has to recycle its huge trade surpluses, and the biggest, most liquid option for investing them is U.S. government debt.

2. Geithner 'open' to China proposal
Geithner, at the Council on Foreign Relations, said the U.S. is "open" to a headline-grabbing
proposal by the governor of the China's central bank, which was widely reported as being a call for a new global currency to replace the dollar, but which Geithner described as more modest and "evolutionary."

"I haven’t read the governor’s proposal. He’s a very thoughtful, very careful distinguished central banker. I generally find him sensible on every issue," Geithner said, saying that however his interpretation of the proposal was to increase the use of International Monetary Fund's special drawing rights -- shares in the body held by its members -- not creating a new currency in the literal sense.

"We’re actually quite open to that suggestion – you should see it as rather evolutionary rather building on the current architecture rather than moving us to global monetary union," he said.

"The only thing concrete I saw was expanding the use of the [special drawing rights]," Geithner said. "Anything he’s thinking about deserves some consideration."

4.  A world currency moves nearer after Tim Geithner's slip

US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner confessed on Wednesday that he had not read the plans by China's central bank governor for a "super-sovereign reserve currency" run by the International Monetary Fund, but nevertheless let slip that Washington was "open" to the idea. Whoops.

This is how matters quickly escalate in geo-finance. China's suggestion – backed by Russia, Brazil, and India, and clearly aimed at breaking US dollar hegemony – is making its way onto the agenda of the G20 Summit next week. 'Dollar-dämmerung' no longer looks so far-fetched

China's paper, by Governor Zhou Xiaochuan, is couched in understated language – more a 'thought experiment' than a declaration of monetary war. His ideas could be mistaken for the musings of an academic theorist. Nobody should be fooled by decorum.

It comes days after premier Wen Jiabow demanded US action to safeguard the value of China's holdings of US bonds - $740bn of US Treasuries and a further $600bn or so of other debt. "We have lent huge amounts of money to the US. Of course we are concerned about the safety of our assets," he said.

China's Communist Party seems to fear that the Federal Reserve is orchestrating a beggar-thy-neighbour devaluation - and a disguised default on America's foreign debt - by resorting to the nuclear option of printing money to buy US Treasury bonds.

China's proposal is to activate the IMF's power to issue Special Drawing Rights (SDRs). The IMF would be groomed as de facto central bank for the planet. The SDRs would gradually become an "accepted means of payment". Call it the 'globo'.

5. Bachmann bill would ban global currency

  1:31 pm by Eric Zimmermann

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has introduced legislation that would "bar the dollar from being replace by any foreign currency." A statement from Bachmann's website:

“Yesterday, during a Financial Services Committee hearing, I asked Secretary Geithner if he would denounce efforts to move towards a global currency and he answered unequivocally that he would," said Bachmann. "And President Obama gave the nation the same assurances. But just a day later, Secretary Geithner has left the option on the table. I want to know which it is. The American people deserve to know."
